2021 PGA Championship Sleeper Picks

PGA Championship Sleeper PicksThe PGA Championship plays a lot like a regular PGA Tour tournament. The Masters has its aura, the US Open is always set up to be difficult, the British Open Championship is historic and played on a links style golf course…then there’s the PGA Championship!

It is still the 2nd major of the year (although in the 2021 PGA Tour season it is the 4th major of the season) and the top golfers in the world will be there. When we look at sleeper picks for the PGA Championship you have a bit different criteria to consider but ultimately you are usually picking from a field of 156 players that are the best golfers already and many of them can win on any given week of the PGA Tour schedule.

This is also the chance you have to become RICH playing in the DraftKings Fantasy Golf Millionaire Contest in the industry. If you haven’t played in it before why not?

Things to Consider for 2021 PGA Championship Sleeper Picks

Play the Hot Hand – This could be the #1 strategy to look at when choosing a sleeper pick for the PGA Championship. Guys that played well last week at the Byron Nelson and two weeks ago at teh Wells fargo that odds makers have ranked low could be the guys you should focus on when making sleeper picks for the PGA Championship. The hot golfer that has a low salary cap price may be the one that jumps in and wins the PGA Championship.

Speaking of the Odds – See what the odds makers say, everyone keys in on the favorites to win the PGA Championship and they are the ones with low odds, but many top golfers are given 50-1 or 80-1 odds and are set up just as well to win as the favorites are. Course History – Usually isn’t as big a factor as the course rotates around each year. This year it's being played at The Ocean Course at Kiawah Island which most PGA Tour players haven't seen so course history won't play too much in any of your picks this week. The Ocean Course at Kiawah Island hosted the PGA Championship in 2012 where some of the veterans on Tour will have played it (Rory won it by 8 strokes) so that would be all you have to go on for course history.

How is the Golf Course Set Up? – This is a tough course even without a set up for a major. The 13th and 17th will be bogey (or double bogey) holes and weather could be a factor like it was in 2012 where thunderstorms delayed the event. Hazards throughout the course lead up to greens that greatly undulate with multiple tiers for putters to guess through. Distance off the teen is an asset but accuracy is probably the most important stat off the teen this week. – Our PGA Championship Preview Page will help out a bit.

Why do I need PGA Championship Sleeper Picks?

Wanamaker TrophyIf you are playing in the Fantasy Golf Millionaire Contest at DraftKings then you need to fill a lineup of six golfers under a salary cap. The top golfers will eat up a lot of your salary cap so you need to find 1-3 Sleepers for the PGA Championship that will make the cut and score you points throughout the 4 rounds of the Major. If you are going to play for the big money, all 6 of your players need to make the cut or else there will be no big novelty check in your future!

PGA Championship Sleeper Picks for Betting

There are two ways to use sleeper picks in betting. First is the obvious way of picking a player, putting some money down and hope he cashes in. Most bettors hedge their bets and pick 10 guys that range anywhere from 25-1 up to around 75-1 odds, put down an amount and if 1 of the 10 win you cash in a profit. Another way to use sleepers is to look at the head to head or three-way matchups that betting sites offer during the week and take advantage that the golfer is undervalued and that he can beat the other golfer(s) that day in the total scoring.

2021 PGA Championship Sleeper Picks for Fantasy Golf

The 2021 PGA Championship is being played at The Ocean Course at Kiawah Island which hosted the PGA Championship event in 2012 where Rory McIlroy won. There won't be much course history for golfers on the PGA Tour unless they've been secretly sneaking out and playing the course on their off days. For our Sleeper Picks we are looking at guys playing the hot hand leading up to the PGA Championship and those that generally play well in majors but are undervalued by bookmakers.

Corey Conners - 60-1 Odds - Played well enough at the Masters last month to finish in 8th and has 6 other Top 10 finishes this year. Conners is one of the best ball strikers on the PGA Tour and is a threat in every tournament when all the parts of his game are clicking. He will have confidence in this week’s major having played well in the last one and at 60-1 odds also makes a solid sleeper bet this week to try to cash in on.

Abraham Ancer - 66-1 Odds - Ancer ranks well in most metrics on the PGA Tour compared to many of his peers. He is 2 for 2 in cuts made at the PGA Championship and I think is a great play this week. He’s playing really well this season with over half of his finishes being in the Top 25. As a DFS pick it’s best to see which sites offer you the best value in using him when their salary cap numbers come out but he should be a solid 4 round play that shouldn’t be too costly for your fantasy golf lineups.

Adam Scott - 60-1 Odds - Towards the latter half of his golf career, Scott still plays well in majors and has always had a solid record at the PGA Championship. He’s only missed one cut at this major since 2010 and has four Top 10’s in those years. For a fantasy golf pick he isn’t a low cost sleeper but he should be priced well enough that you can create a solid lineup with him not costing you too much.
