2018 Safeway Open Sleeper Picks

Safeway Open Sleeper PicksThe new PGA Tour season begins! Although the FedEx Cup playoffs just ended and the Ryder Cup finished last week the new 2018/2019 PGA Tour season begins.

As we mention in our Safeway Open Preview page, this is a bit of a weak field since most of the top PGA Tour players sit out and don’t start up again next week in Kuala Lumpur or the WGC – HSBC Champions tournament. The biggest name in the field this week is Phil Mickelson who has become somewhat of an ambassador for the tournament and then there’s Brendan Steele who has won the Safeway Open back to back coming into 2018 looking for a 3-peat.

We have some of our Safeway Open Sleeper picks that you can use for either fantasy golf or make a bet with but if you want some true expert picks that you can count on go to GolfStats.com and use their picks.

The Golf Course

Silverado Country Club in Napa, California

Silverado is a Par 72, and is 7,166 yards in length. The course allows for a good opportunity for scoring as all of the winners on the Silverado course have shot at least -15 over the four days. As a Par 72 course it has four par fives which play as the easiest four holes throughout the tournament. The fairways at Silverado are pretty narrow but because the course isn’t very long, being accurate is more important than having long distance off the tee. Find golfers who rank high in greens in regulation (GIR) and Par 5 scoring.

2018 Safeway Open Sleeper Picks For Bettors and Fantasy Golf

SUNGJAE IM - As we mentioned in our 2018-2019 PGA Tour Sleeper Picks and Rookies page, we are really high on Sungjae Im and what he may do during this year’s PGA Tour season as a rookie. I love taking new players on tour for these early tournaments because they generally just finished the Web.com Tour playing competitive stressful golf and now jump right into a new situation and they want to impress early. Look for Im to play really well this week at the Safeway Open.

JOAQUIN NIEMANN - Niemann is another guy that this year could mirror the beginning of his career like Jon Rahm did. He’s already played on the PGA Tour as a rookie so now he’s a full blown sleeper pick since not many will know who he is except for the hard-core fantasy golf players. He had a solid July and August but hasn't played in any events since the Wyndham Championship so keep note that there could be some rust on his game too.
