2021 PLAYERS Championship Sleeper Picks

Players Championship Sleeper PicksAre you ready for some more golf fun? Welcome to THE PLAYERS Championship where no lead is safe until passing the famous 17th island hole. Nowhere else does a simple 137 yard wedge shot hang a tournament in the balance with many a championship lost on the final Sunday. Even picking sleeper picks for THE PLAYERS Championship is a crapshoot if they screw it all up on the 17th hole.

In 2019 the tournament made a big move on the PGA Tour schedule with the PLAYERS moving from its spot in May way back into March so that the PGA Tour could move the PGA Championship up in the schedule to make it a more important major tournament. Nonetheless, the PLAYERS still is a huge tournament, often referred to as the fifth major and with 600 FedEx Cup points on the line for the winner and over $15 Million in prize money you will have the best players in the world all at TPC Sawgrass for the week.

To win a big GPP at a top DFS fantasy golf site you will need to use plenty of strategy to create a winning DFS lineup. One of our favorite sites that we will use this week is GolfStats.com. Their picks make us money each year and players that joined using our GolfStats Promo Code GOLFBONUS have made money too!

THE PLAYERS Championship Golf Course

TPC Sawgrass par 72 - 7,189 yards

TPC Sawgrass definitely is a course that favors accuracy over distance. There are tons of water hazards (25 in total and they are in play on most of the holes) and the narrow fairways means you need to have solid accuracy off the tee but be accurate with the irons on your approach shots. The greens at Sawgrass are on the smaller side compared to other golf courses on the PGA Tour which again is why accuracy stats matter this week.

Typically on a par 72 you look at Par 5 scoring stats (and you should this week too) but because all four of the Par 5’s offer great scoring opportunities most of the players will look good on the Par 5’s. Focus more attention on Par 4 scoring stats since at TPC Sawgrass they rank as some of the more difficult Par 4’s on the PGA Tour. Success or failure will be determined on how golfers play those this week including holes 5, 14 and 18 which are three of the hardest holes on the course and big numbers can happen easily.

Being that the PLAYERS is in Florida, wind can always be a factor so look at players that are good scramblers to save par. Check out the weather to see if there will be any really bad wind day (or rain for that matter) and if there are times that will particularity bad look at picking players whose tee times will be during the less windy conditions.

TPC Sawgrass is the ultimate test of golf which will require patience but at the same time you need to be aggressive if you want to score enough to win. The winner of the PLAYERS Championship will be accurate off the tee and have a solid second shot into the greens. You will want to also look off the stat sheet at two other intangibles. Look at course history to see who has played well at TPC Sawgrass and who hasn’t. There are some guys that aren’t good enough to beat the best players on Tour but can tame the course well enough to have a consistently solid finishes year in and year out. The other thing to check out is who plays well on Pete Dye designed courses. Dye’s course have some unique qualities that some players excel on and some just fail at. Check out guys’ history on tracks like Harbour Town, TPC Louisiana, TPC West, Austin CC and TPC River Highlands. Also, there will be holes that top golfers will blow up on screwing over you DFS lineups so if you are doing multiple lineups, don’t be afraid to try out some sleeper picks for the PLAYERS Championship that check all the boxes in stats that we mentioned…they could just be some of the few left standing on the Sunday.

2021 TPC Fantasy Golf Sleeper Picks

Keegan Bradley - Bradley has made the cut last 4 times and finished 16th and 7th in the last two times he’s played TPC Sawgrass. Keegan played decently last week at the Arnold Palmer and should be a low cost sleeper pick at all DFS golf sites this week.

Matt Kuchar - Father Time is sitting on Kuchar’s shoulders but he does pop up on leader boards occasionally in certain tournaments. A past winner of the PLAYERS Championship, Kuchar hasn’t missed a cut at TPC Sawgrass in 2008. Is he going to win this week? No, and the current betting odds for the PLAYERS Championship reflect that but as a fantasy golf sleeper pick to play all four rounds for your lineup he is worth a look this week.
