2019 Desert Classic Sleeper Picks

Desert Classic Sleeper PicksNext PGA Tour stop is the Desert Classic which until recently was known as the CareerBuilder Challenge. This tournament is a bit unusual and a bit tough to make sleeper picks for because it is played on three different golf courses and there is a cut after the Saturday round.

If you haven’t got your Golfstats yearlong membership yet, this may be the best weekend to try them out since they will have the full tournament breakdown and their DraftKings Sleeper Picks up for this week…just like they have for each PGA Tour event.

If you sign up for the year, use the logo below to take advantage of our sign up bonus when you use GolfStats promo code GOLFBONUS to sign up.

Expert Sleeper Picks for the Sony Open

Desert Classic Golf Course

The tournament is played on 3 different courses: La Quinta Country Club, the Nicklaus Tournament Course, and the Stadium Course which is also the course that the final round is played on.

As mentioned above, the Desert Classic is played on 3 courses and the Stadium course is also the course for the final round on Sunday. All three golf courses offer birdie chances in a tournament known for its low scoring average. The final round over the last 10 years has been over -20 so targeting players that take advantage of Par 5’s is a must this week.

Pay attention to how guys putted last week at the Sony Open as this is another Bermuda putting surface tournament and there are some guys that excel on Bermuda grass and some that don’t. Last week should give you an idea on whose putting could be a factor this week.

Other stats to look at for the week will be BOB% - Birdie or Better Conversion %, GIR % - Greens in Regulation and Strokes Gained Approach to Green.

Again, to win this tournament players will need to take advantage of the Par 5 holes and convert birdies on the 2 easier courses. Ball strikers and accuracy players seem to dominate these courses in the past but if some of the long bombers can keep their fairway accuracy in a high percentage they can dominate the Par 5’s and rack up birdies and eagles all weekend long.

Good Luck and enjoy the 2019 Desert Classic!

2019 Desert Classic Sleeper Picks

Bill Haas - Prior to last year’s missed cut, Haas has absolutely owned this tournament with two career wins and 5 - Top 10 finishes. Haas is far from an elite PGA Tour player but he will be a low cost sleeper pick at every daily fantasy golf site and is worth a lineup spot if you are trying to load up on big name favorites. He had a bit of a mixed bag of results to begin the 2018/2019 PGA tour season so tread carefully but he’s definitely worth a look at a site like FantasyDraft where you can drop your lowest scoring player. Haas is a nice risk/reward sleeper this week!
